The Navy Larks

THE Mayor of Salisbury, Cllr Mike Osment, gave an official send-off to the city’s shanty singing group, the Navy Larks, prior to their visit to the city’s twin town, Saintes, in south-west France.

The mayor, accompanied by the mayoress, Nikki Savage, also attended one of the group’s final rehearsals which are held weekly at The Pheasant Inn, Salisbury.

He wished the group a successful visit later this month, and handed over a greeting for the Mayor of Saintes, Jean-Philippe Machon.

There will be 47 singers and partners on the visit for which a busy programme of performances, visits and receptions has been planned by the Amitiés Saintes Salisbury.

A group of members of Salisbury Saintes Twinning Association will also be in Saintes for their visit.
