A MAN who threatened a woman with a sword was Tasered by police who said it was “necessary” in order to arrest him.
Officers used a Taser to arrest the man, who was threatening a woman with a samurai sword in Verwood.
Armed police were called to Chiltern Drive just after 5.30pm on Sunday September 9.
They had been told that a man armed with an ornamental samurai sword was making threats to a woman at an address there.
Three police vehicles attended and officers found a man in a vehicle outside the address and a sword was seized. The man and woman are known to each other and there were no injuries.
A 48-year-old man from Verwood was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, affray and driving offences and has been released under investigation while inquiries continue.
A spokesman for Dorset Police said it was “necessary for officers to use a Taser.”
