A CLASSIC farce is taking centre stage at Studio Theatre in Salisbury.

Charley’s Aunt by Brandon Thomas runs at the Ashley Road theatre from September 28 until October 6, 7.30pm.

This play has been filmed, made into a musical, Where’s Charley?, and has featured in the repertory of almost every amateur and provincial theatre as well as being played all over the world in English and in innumerable translations.

At one time it was running simultaneously in 48 theatres in 22 languages including Afrikaans, Chinese, Esperanto, Gaelic and Zulu.

Set in Oxford, Charles and Jack invite their young ladies to meet Charley’s aunt from Brazil who will act as chaperone.

When she postpones her visit they persuade their friend Babbs to impersonate her - and the fun begins.

The production is directed by Ros Liddington.

There will be no performance on Monday, October 1. On Saturday, October 6 there will be a matinee before the evening performance.

A talk will be held after the show on Thursday, October 4.

Tickets are £10 from Salisbury Information Centre in Fish Row or online at ticketsource.co.uk/studiotheatresalisbury
