SALISBURY FC led tributes to a season ticket holder of 10 years on Saturday, after he died of a brain tumour aged 42.

Martyn Fox died on Thursday, August 23, and had been an employee of Chairman Ian Hammond.

Martyn's friends and family, including his wife and sister, were given two executive boxes free of charge, and 10 year-old family friend Alfie Haldane was given a mascot experience.

This included a free shirt, as well as Alfie going into the dressing room, meeting the players and having his picture taken with them and the manager Steve Claridge.

Alfie also received a programme signed by the players, before going onto the pitch for a kickabout, as well as leading the players out onto the pitch and through the pre-match handshakes.

There were then photos taken with the team captains and match officials in the centre circle.

A minute's silence was observed in Martyn's memory before kick off.

Salisbury FC's spokesman, Alec Hayter, said: "Salisbury Football clubs, in their various guises over the years, have always tried to be family orientated, and Ian Hammond’s generosity in donating the boxes and package for Martyn's friends and family shows that still to be the case.

Martyn had been a season ticket holder at the Ray Mac for some time, and tragically passed away after only seeing one game - against Poole Town. He even missed the only Whites goal due to a call of nature!"

Emma Kirkpatrick, Alfie Haldane's mother, organised the day, and said: "I've worked with Martyn's wife for the last 20 years, and when you are so close to somebody, you just feel really helpless.

I knew that Martyn always came here to watch the football, and I just wanted to do something to show them I cared.

This is just my way of doing something."

The family were treated to a great game, as the Whites beat visiting Staines Town 3-2 in a five-goal thriller.
