BASINGSTOKE Town booked their place in the third round of the Hampshire Senior Cup thanks to a 2-1 win over Farnborough on Tuesday night.

The home side started the better and a Dean Stow corner saw Callum Bunting's header cleared off the line in the 10th minute.

After this Ben Wright and Jack McKnight both had chances.

The opening goal went to the visitors in the final minute of the first half.

Farnborough were awarded a free-kick 35 yards out and Declan Appau's deflected strike hit the back of the net.

However, the home side hit back straight away as Wright was able to find Sam Smart to level things before the break.

Just a minute after the re-start Town made it 2-1 as Bunting scored.

Dan Collier, the match winner on Tuesday night was denied by the post from 30 yards out.

The visitor's Perry Coles then went close and they also had a goal disallowed for offside.

Then in the space of three minutes after the hour mark both McKnight and Wright were denied by the crossbar.

Farnborough continued to look for an equaliser, with both Michael Fernandes and sub Connor Calcut going close.

Then right at the death a great stop from goalkeeper James Stroud denied Smart a second after some excellent work from Zidan Akers.

Town are in cup action again on Saturday, when they travel to Bristol Manor Farm in the FA Cup.
