SALISBURY Museum has launched its latest events programme for September 2018 – March 2019.

Running alongside the major exhibitions programme, there are unusual events and performances for all the family to enjoy.

On Saturday, October 27, the museum will be hosting a performance from the Don’t Go Into The Cellar theatre company.

Beastly Monsters and Monstrous Beasts is a fantastical one-woman performance by Fiona Johnston as Alice Quatermain.

In the style of Edwardian melodrama, Alice will tell tall tales of her encounters with beastly monsters, monstrous beasts, deadly dinosaurs and fiendish fauna. It is family fun for ages seven and above, and there will be lots of opportunities for audience participation.

In complete contrast, December will see the first performance of Darling Edith and Others: Rex Whistler in Letters. The museum acquired the Rex Whistler archive in 2013, which includes many letters dating from Rex Whistler’s school days in 1917, right through to 1944 and his untimely death.

These letters have been edited by museum volunteer Christine Mason, who has been working on the Rex Whistler archive since 2014 and transformed the letters into a performance of readings.

The stage will be set, and actors Jill Fenner and Edward Halsted will assume the roles of Edith Olivier, Rex Whistler and a cast of family and friends, giving an insight into the life and thinking of the artist. The performance will take place on Friday, December 7.
