THE two people taken ill at a city centre restaurant on Sunday have been discharged.

Police attended Prezzo after receiving a call from the ambulance service on Sunday night, reporting that a 42-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman had become unwell.

The restaurant and surrounding roads were cordoned off and emergency crews in white suits and face masks were at the scene with officers in full hazmat suits standing by.

The cordon outside Prezzo has today been lifted.

Lorna Wilkinson, the director od nursing at Salisbury District Hospital, said: “On Sunday night, we admitted two people to Salisbury District Hospital following an incident in the city centre. These two people have now been discharged.

“Given recent events, we tested both individuals for the presence of nerve agents such as Novichok. Tests on both patients came back negative.

“Both patients are now medically fit and there is no need for them to be in hospital.

“While this incident did not involve nerve agents, it was still clearly very stressful for our staff who, once again, demonstrated the very best of the NHS. I want to thank them for rising to the occasion yet again.”

As a result of the testing, police are not linking their illness to the recent poisonings in Salisbury and Amesbury.

A police spokesman said at this stage the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
