A MAN was knocked unconscious by an attacker who stole his wallet and cigarettes in a late-night robbery.

The 39-year-old was near the entrance to The Brambles in London Road between midnight and 1am last Tuesday (September 18) when he was approached by another man on a bike.

The cyclist, who is described as white, aged in his early twenties and of slim build, demanded that the victim hand over his phone and punched him to the face, he was repeatedly assaulted and knocked unconscious.

When the victim came around he realised his black Superdry wallet and cigarettes had been stolen. He sustained serious facial injuries which required hospital treatment.

House to house enquiries were carried out and CCTV analysis is underway as part of the ongoing investigation, and police are now appealing for witnesses.

Officers are hoping to speak to anyone who saw a man riding a bike in the London Road area in the early hours of September 18, who witnessed the assault or has any relevant information, or who may have private CCTV or dashcam footage to help identify the person responsible.
