AN ICE rink will be coming to Salisbury to join the Christmas festivities this year.

On Thursday, November 29, the launch of Salisbury's Christmas Market will be accompanied by a 240 sq m ice rink, both located on Guildhall Square.

The rink is an initiative organised by Salisbury Business Improvement District (BID), hoping to add more fun and festivities to the seasonal period alongside shopping, a Nutcracker Trail and live music.

BID Chief Executive, Robin McGowan, is "thrilled" to announce the launch of the first ice rink on Guildhall Square, adding: “It’s not been an easy challenge, but the BID team have worked really hard to make it happen.

“It is another excellent family-friendly attraction that will appeal to people of all ages - residents and visitors alike."

Following the nerve agent incidents earlier this year, the BID has already used recovery funds to offer a 30 per cent discount on chalet rental, and as well as this the rink will provide eight temporary job roles.

Robin added: “We’re encouraging businesses, schools and groups to get involved and organise a trip to the ice rink.

“The rink will be a real draw in the picturesque surroundings of Guildhall Square and we’re confident people will come out to support and enjoy it.”

The ice rink will stay open until Sunday, January 6, excluding Christmas Day and New Year's Day, and tickets will be available for the ice rink from mid-October.
