A DUCK race will be taking place this weekend in support of a Harnham building refurbishment.

St George's Church Hall (soon to be renamed Harnham Parish Hall) is launching the fundraiser this Sunday (September 30), to raise money to improve the hall's facilities and what the building can offer.

The event will begin with a joint service in the church hall at 10am, followed by a family picnic and duck race in the field next to the Old Mill, kicking off from 12pm.

A spokesman for the parish hall said: “The 60-year-old St George’s Church Hall in Lower Street in Harnham urgently needs modernising in order to meet todays needs.

"Harnham residents deserve a modern, well-equipped hall in the centre of the community.

"The St George’s Church Hall can fulfil that role, but it urgently needs to make certain improvements including full accessibility throughout, a fully equipped kitchen, more flexible spaces, a parish office with improved facilities and an environmentally friendly building.”

Ducks can be purchased in advance for £1 from the Old Mill Public House, or the Harnham parish office Friday morning.
