HATCH Warren Phoenix Volcanoes enjoyed a victory in their first ever competitive match away at Winchester City Flyers.

The Balloons for U sponsored Volcanoes came out of the blocks quickly with Grace Satwick and Sadie Martindale forcing the goalkeeper into some good saves.

The Flyers came back into the game and had a few chances to score, but the defence of Nayra Lovell and Sommer Blanchard, with Bridgeman in goal, held fast and another swift counter attack from the Phoenix resulted in the first goal.

With the defence winning the ball, the Volcanoes broke quickly with Martindale feeding a through ball to the ever running Satwick, who beat the keeper at the second attempt.

The second half saw a completely different Volcanoes team, but with the same desire to win the ball and launch wave after wave of attack against the tiring Flyers.

Aimee Smith and Zara Buckley marshalled the defence while Sophia Butler, Izzy Herridge-Brown and Izzy Pike ran the midfield.

Both Herridge-Brown scored their first goals for the club, while Amber Loring scored three, giving the Phoenix a 6-0 win.

Poppy Hawkins and Lyla Bridgeman shared the team's first ever clean sheet.
