A PRIMARY school has opened a new quiet space for children and families to work, thanks to donations, sponsors and grant.

The Cedar Room was celebrated by the community and sponsors last week (Friday, September 28), at Coombe Bissett Church of England VA Primary School in Salisbury.

The school received a £10,000 Ministry of Defence Support Fund (ESF) grant in 2017, to help support the school's Nurture Project and make the Cedar Room a reality.

The "safe haven" will accommodate for children who were once sitting in open areas and corridors completing one-on-one work.

Kirsten Webster, chairman of governors, said the school and community feel "extremely blessed" and "fortunate" to introduce the new room adding: "This grant has provided an amazing opportunity to build a nurture room separate from the main school building.

"The Octagonal Cedar building, built by Hideout House Ltd, and the surrounding garden, has given the children a focus for their fundraising and arts/eco activities this last academic year and they are planning to develop it further into a sensory area and build upon their school eco-curriculum."

The ESF fund is a £6 million grant available to publicly funded schools, academies and free schools in the UK.
