THE community joined together for a day of celebrations at the Big Bash on Bemerton.

About 200 people attended the event on Saturday to mark the achievements of local residents. who through partnering with local agencies, have improved communal areas on Gainsborough Close.

Young people in the area having been leading the charge - designing and painting an art mural and coming up with the idea for a community garden project.

Wiltshire Council invested more than £34,000 in resurfacing the playing surface of the Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) as well as installing a roof net.

The event was organised by charity Rise:61. Director Robin Imeson said: “We are working hard on Bemerton Heath to harness the enthusiasm, energy and creativity of it’s young people to make the estate better for all of us who live here. The Big Bash was a fantastic celebration and recognition of all that has been achieved so far and we would just like to say thank you to everyone who came and to Wilts Council and all our partners who helped make it such a fun day.

“There was a real sense of community spirit and the whole event was a great example of what we can achieve when we all work together.”

There were activities, including circus skills and face painting, as well as entertainment from Jonathan the Jester.
