SOME of the treasures discovered in Salisbury Cathedral Library during its ongoing three-year cleaning and cataloguing project will be revealed at a special Discovery Day.
Behind the Library Door will take place on Saturday, October 20, and will be the first of several events taking place over the next two years as part of a wider project funded by the Heritage Lottery fund, Sackler Trust, Friends of Salisbury Cathedral, and others.
During the day library staff and volunteers will be showcasing some of the 100,000 volumes that make up the Cathedral’s collection.
Cathedral archivist Emily Naish said: “We want to make our library and rare books collection accessible to and enjoyed by everyone.
“Rare books are something everyone can get interested in and enjoy, they aren’t just the preserve of academics and specialists. And they are not, as some people think, dirty, dusty and hard to understand - and working with them is both fun and intriguing.”
