ALZHEIMER'S Support has opened its new office in the heart of Salisbury.

The charity, which offers a wide range of support for people living with dementia in Wiltshire, extended its services to Salisbury after winning a Wiltshire Council contract in 2017.

Babs Harris, the chief executive of Alzheimer’s Support said: “We are delighted to have a base in Salisbury at last. Our employees are mainly out and about running groups and meeting clients, but it is so important to have a presence in the city where we now do so much and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has made this possible.”

The office will provide a base for dementia adviser Steve Slater, care coordinator Amanda Smith and community services coordinator Kate Western.

Members of the public will be able to pop in for advice by appointment.

Alzheimer's Support offers people the chance to get involved with community groups including Music for the Mind, Movement for the Mind and a gardening café at Wilton.

The charity also has a national award-winning support at home service and dementia advisers, who visit people at home and provide information and advice.

Members of staff have been home based since April 2017 but now, thanks to Munro’s accountants and an anonymous local benefactor, they now have a base at Scot’s House in Scot’s Lane.

The building is being refurbished by Alan Munro and his team, who have offered the charity a small office and meeting room at a reduced rent.

The costs of this are being met by a local man who wishes to support it.

The charity says there are more than 7,000 people living with dementia in the Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group area. And the number of people living with dementia in Wiltshire is expected to rise by 44 per cent by 2021.
