THE latest leg of the Go Run For Fun event took place in Salisbury on Monday morning, with more than 730 young runners taking to the track.

The aim of the run was to “uplift the city after the recent unfortunate happenings”.

Children from a number of local schools took part, all wearing pink Go Run For Fun T-shirts.

The run was also able to accommodate dyslexic children from Appleford school with the staff running with them.

Organiser Elena Oderstone said: “Thanks to Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s generosity, who arranged for Chris Thompson, double Olympian and European medallist, to attend the race, who was a real inspiration to the children.”

The Mayor and Mayoress of Salisbury opened the run and four participating children read messages of support from HRH The Prince of Wales, HRH The Earl of Wessex, The Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire and The Bishop of Salisbury.

GO Run For Fun has been working to help encourage children to get active and become more aware of the fun involved in sport and activity since 2013.
