DEDICATED patrols are being carried out by police to tackle drugs in Fordingbridge.

PCSO Stephen May told a meeting of Fordingbridge Town Council work was continuing, particularly near the Roundhill car park area, which had led to two sentencings in court for drug possession.

Councillor Brian Perkins asked about the work being done by the police in relation to the supply of drugs as he had heard comments that there was a “blatant supply of drugs in the car park”.

PCSO May said: “At this point that’s all I can say, that there is continuing work going on.”

He told the meeting, which was held on October 3: “We are aware of it and we will push through convictions where we can."

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary, after the meeting, said: “The Fordingbridge neighbourhood policing team continues to work with our partners to tackle this issue and we have set up dedicated patrols in the area.

“We have seen a reduction in reports recently, but continue to encourage the local community to report an suspicious activity to us.”

During the meeting the town council was told there had been 54 incidents in the Fordingbridge Town beat area which were recordable as crime during July 5 to October 3.

And during that period there were two incidents of drugs possession, an increase compared to one incident between in April 6 and July 5.
