HALLOWEEN and bonfire night lovers are warned to "stay safe" this year when wearing fancy dress and using candles and fireworks.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is warning both children and adults to be more careful when around fire to avoid risk of injury, particularly when celebrating in fancy dress.

To reduce fire risks over the next few weeks the service has provided advice including keep fancy dress away from naked flames, use LED lights in pumpkins, do not overload electricity sockets and check labels in fancy dress costumes.

When using candles make sure they are placed in a holder somewhere they cannot be knocked, and are extinguished when going to bed.

And finally if clothes do catch fire, 'stop, drop and roll', and in an emergency gain medical assistance.

Area manager for the service, Seth Why said: “We don’t want to stop people enjoying Halloween, but we do want them to celebrate safely.

"There is nothing more terrifying than having a fire at home or seeing your clothes catch fire.”
