AN EX-soldier has completed a “risky and dangerous” challenge running through three of the most troubled countries in the world, all to raise money for children affected by war.

Jordan Wylie, from Andover, crossed the finishing line after a successful run through the hostile terrain of Afghanistan on October 12.

He has previously run a half marathon in Iraq and a 10k run in Somalia.

The Kings Royals Hussars veteran was was unable to tell other runners in the marathon and those on social media about his past, having served tours in all three countries.

And due to the security situation in Afghanistan, no commercial flights were operating in Bamiyan Province - where The Secret Marathon was taking place.

Jordan said: “I had to apply to the United Nations for a seat on a flight delivering aid, it was an eight-seater plane but I am very grateful.”

The 34-year-old said that out of his three challenges, this was the worst.

“It was tough both mentally and physically, it was the toughest thing I have ever done,” Jordan said.

“It was just hill after hill and mountain after mountain - super difficult.

“This was by far the toughest because of the distance and the altitude.”

The dad-of-one said that the battle was made worthwhile due to his Running Dangerously project.

“What kept me going was that we were running through little villages and seeing little children because I am raising money for children in conflict zones. It was fitting and inspiring getting a reminder of why I was doing it - it was quite emotional.”

But his fundraising is not over as he has reached £60,000 of his £100,000 target and will host a charity ball next week in a bid to reach his goal.

And Jordan has said that he is grateful that his challenge has not only caught the attention of the international media but also donors.

Alongside his charity work Jordan has also landed a role in the celebrity special of Channel 4 series Hunted, and has been helping track down the likes of British gymnast Louis Smith and Johnny Mercer MP.

Following the series, next year Jordan will be going back out on daring adventures, abseiling down the world’s highest waterfall in Venezuela and solo rowing the Gulf of Aden.
