A NEW Mexican restaurant is set to open in Salisbury city centre next week.

Tinga, a Mexican restaurant and bar, will be opening in place of Danny’s Bar and Kitchen, on Salt Lane, next Friday (November 16).

The building has been fully refurbished to give the restaurant a new look, with designs in-keeping with the authentic Mexican menu planned.

Diners will be able to enjoy traditional Latin American dishes and an array of speciality cocktails.

Tinga is the name of a traditional Mexican dish made from shredded chicken in a sauce made from tomatoes, onions and chillies. This can be found on the menu at Tinga in the form of tacos, quesadillas and salads along with a whole host of other dishes.

Dave Hancock and Aimee Ullah, who previously ran Danny’s Bar, said they decided to revamp the business in order to offer something completely different to the people of Salisbury.

They were inspired after a trip to Mexico City, where the culture, atmosphere and lifestyle formed the bases for their new business concept.

The pair said: “We are very excited to be revealing our brand new concept restaurant and bar, which incorporates months of research, hard work from many different people and lots of original objects that we brought back from Mexico during our travels.

"Each element of the venue has been considered in huge detail by our fantastic local designers, Dib Dab Designs.

"We’ve employed a consultant chef to ensure our menu is authentically Mexican, and we’ve partnered with Bacardi to create a specialised premium cocktail list.”

The interiors, by Dib Dab Designs, are modelled on a small restaurant in the Juárez district of Mexico City. It includes a 3D wall depicting Frieda Kahlo’s face and a huge blossom tree coming through the ceiling.

Tinga opens next Friday, but pre-bookings are now being taken for meals and Christmas parties ahead of the festive period.
