SKIES over Salisbury will light up TONIGHT for the return of the annual charity fireworks display - set to be the best yet with hopes to further the city’s recovery.

Rotary Fireworks will take place this evening at the livestock market, after a cash boost from Wiltshire Council and support from sponsor Persimmon.

Salisbury Chamber of Commerce President, Andy Rhind-Tutt, secured £10,000 of recovery money to be shared between this event and one taking place in Amesbury.

He hopes the funds will “enable families to have a great weekend and to lead the community into Christmas, at last enabling some closure on an unfortunate chapter for Salisbury”.

“The funds have not only enabled us to secure Rufus Black, a band made up of world-class musicians, and a firework display to match, but has brought a huge amount of goodwill from everyone helping,” he said.

“Salisbury BID have also been fantastic supporters, engaging with local businesses to offer a voucher pack for everyone who attends, and will give up to 20 per cent off eateries in Salisbury for the whole weekend, including bonfire night on Monday.”

Transport arrangements have also had a boost. Salisbury Reds are providing seven free buses, running from outside the Cathedral Hotel in Milford Street, and from Wilton and Britford Park and Rides. There is limited parking on site this year.

Hosting the event this year will be BBC Wiltshire and all proceeds from the event will go to local charities including the Stars Appeal and Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

The gates open at 5.45pm, and the fireworks should end by 8pm.

Advance tickets are £8 per adult, with one child going free per paying adult. Additional children’s tickets are £4. On the night they will be £10 and £5 respectively.
