THREE people have now been sentenced following a robbery in which a bag was stolen.

On Wednesday, July 4, the trio assaulted a 21-year-old man in Salisbury while trying to steal his bag and wallet.

The assault involved grabbing the victim and punching him several times, before running away with the bag when security guards approached.

19-year-old Ryan Maltman, of Carmelite Way, pleaded guilty on Friday, October 19, and was sentenced two years imprisonment by Winchester Crown Court.

Benjamin Jones, 21, from Rollestone Street, also pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment.

The final person, a 15-year-old, was given a six month youth rehabilitation order.

Det Con Toni Nugent, of Salisbury Criminal Investigation Department (CID), said: “This was a vicious and unprovoked attack on the victim, which left him feeling understandably terrified and upset, and suffering with bruising and swelling to his face.

“The robbery took place in the summer and it was still daylight at the time of the attack – there were a number of witnesses who were able to provide us with detailed statements which helped us bring these three to court and ensure justice was served.”
