A HIGH-speed car chase has led to a Salisbury man being disqualified from driving for 12 months.

The 21-year-old driver also pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and possession of cannabis.

A police helicopter was also used to assist officers in locating the driver.

Leon Barrington-Smith, of Devizes Road, Salisbury has been disqualified from driving for 12 months.

On May 27, police received calls from members of the public reporting that Barrington-Smith had been seen exchanging items with people on Bemerton Heath.

Officers attended the area and sighted Barrington-Smith’s blue Volkswagen Golf.

When a marked police vehicle drove behind him, he accelerated at speed and led officers on a high-speed pursuit, where he reached speeds of 70mph along Churchfields Road.

The police helicopter was scrambled which assisted in officers locating and arresting Barrington-Smith.

Barrington-Smith appeared in court on November 2 and pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and possession of cannabis.

He was sentenced to a 12 month community order, ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work and he was disqualified from driving for 12 months with a forced extended driving test following the disqualification period.
