A MOTHER and daughter from Nunton have celebrated raising £60,000 for the Stars Appeal.

Long term Stars Appeal supporters Sybil and Nicola Tucker hold tables sales on the second Tuesday of every month in Springs Restaurant at the hospital, selling donated goods and items such as soft toys and bric-a-brac they have sourced at local car boot and jumble sales.

Now in their 16th year of holding table sales for the hospital’s charity, Sybil and Nicola have recently celebrated reaching £60,000, since they started in 2003.

Nicola said: “It’s wonderful to have raised this kind of money.

“We are so pleased, and we just want to thank all of our customers from over the years”.

Most recently they have donated £3,000 to the MRI Scanner Campaign.

Nicola added: “Since last year all the money we have raised has been going to the MRI campaign, and that’s been wonderful too.

“The second scanner will be wonderful for a lot of local people to be able to get their scans quicker.”

As well contributing toward the second MRI Scanner, money raised by the pair has contributed to a wide range of Stars Appeal projects including the Ace of Heart’s Appeal, Children’s Unit, Cardiac Suite, Breast Unit and Neonatal Family Unit.

Graham Branagan, Consultant Surgeon and chairman of the Stars Appeal MRI Scanner Campaign said: “We are so fortunate to have Sybil and Nicola on our side.

“They are key, long-term supporters of the charity and the money they raise is directly helping thousands of local people.

“We cannot thank them enough for their ongoing hard work and support.”

The Stars Appeal recently reached the £1million mark in its MRI Scanner campaign.

The campaign is not over, and the final push is on to raise the last £500,000 needed to buy the life-saving equipment.
