DRINKING wine has raised around £5,000 for the hospital spinal centre.

Organised by Southern Spinal Injuries Trust, Call my Wine Bluff came to Salisbury Guildhall last Friday (November 2), inviting guests to test their tastebuds against a panel of wine bluffers to raise money for the charity.

The £5,000 total went towards The Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre at Salisbury District Hospital, with hopes to fund equipment that can assist outpatients living with spinal injuries.

The aim of the night's game was to guess what wines were being drank, and which of the celebrity panelists were telling the truth about their anonymous beverages.

Nick Jenkins from Dragons' Den and Moonpig, General Nick Parker and local author, historian and presenter, Guy Walters made up the guest panel for the night, trying to fool more than 100 people with their wine fibs.

Piers Williams, charity manager, said the event went "really well" and it was "a lot of hard work but worthwhile", adding: "The money raised will go towards those in need of equipment, we wanted to raise more but the profit is fantastic as it is beneficiary to those who deserve support."

The selection of wines were supplied by Salisbury's Cambridge Wine Merchants, and a case of champagne was given to the winning team to celebrate.

The charity hope to do similar events in the future in various cities, with fundraisers including a photographing competition already taking them through to next year.

Piers added: "We want to take this package, based on our experience, to new places. It is something we may come back to in a year or so."
