MORE than 50 people jumped from planes this weekend as part of Remembrance commemorations.

On Saturday (November 10), Alabaré teamed up with GoSkydive to commemorate 100 years since the end of the First World War with a 100-person charity skydive.

As well as remembering those who lost their lives during the war, volunteers braved the 10,000ft jump to raise money for Alabaré’s Homes for Veterans appeal, which provides accommodation to homeless veterans and helps them adapt to life outside of the military.

Due to poor weather conditions, only 55 of the jumpers could complete their dive at the weekend, with the remaining 45 rescheduled for Saturday, November 17.

The event, taking place at Old Sarum Park, has been “one of the largest charity skydive days” for the company, according to Emily Wise, GoSkydive charity account manager, adding: “We managed to jump 55 people who all conquered their fears and did something amazing.”

One of the jumpers who took to the skies was chief constable Kier Pritchard, who described the experience like “a game of two halves”.

He said: "It's such an amazing experience. The best way to describe it is like a game of two halves - you’ve got the experience of tumbling through the sky as you free-fall which was fast and furious, and then it's suddenly really tranquil as soon as the parachute is up and you can take the views in, it was just brilliant.”

Kier added: “It’s been a privilege to raise money, but to also raise awareness for the tremendous service that Alabaré provide."

The tandem jump was also conquered by Alabaré CEO Andrew Lord, Mayor of Bristol Marvin Rees, high sheriff Nicky Alberry, and high sheriff Mark Thistlesthwayte.

Alabaré community engagement officer, Laura Knight, titled all of those taking part as “superstars”, adding: "I would like to thank each and every skydiver who braved the jump and helped not only fundraise for Alabaré but commemorate 100 years since the end of World War One.

“I'm really looking forward to welcoming the second group next week."
