AN ATTEMPTED burglary took place in Shrewton earlier today.

Around 6am this morning (Tuesday, November 13), the victims, a couple in their 60s, saw a man in the back garden of their property in Nett Road.

The man had opened the unlocked kitchen window before being confronted by the couple and leaving the scene.

The suspect is described as a white man, aged in his 20s or 30s, of slim build and around 5ft 8ins tall.

He was wearing a grey hooded top, with the hood tied closely around his face.

PC Damian Waldron from Wiltshire South Community Policing Team said: “Luckily nothing was stolen and the offender didn’t manage to gain entry to the house, but this appears to have been an opportunistic crime by someone looking for insecure houses to break into.

“This is a timely reminder to people to make sure their homes are locked up overnight or whenever they go out, and you can find more crime prevention advice on our website."
