A GRANDMOTHER was arrested for drug driving while her grandchildren were in the back seats.

Officers from Dorset Police's No Excuse team stopped the driver near Whitelegg Way in Bournemouth as her driving licence had been revoked.

"When stopped we could strongly smell cannabis - the driver admitted smoking cannabis that morning for breakfast," the No Excuse team said in a post to their Facebook page.

Sat in the back of the woman's car were her grandchildren, aged six and eight.

Police made checks regarding her licence and established the DVLA had revoked it due to her ignoring a request to send it off for penalty points.

A drugwipe was then conducted, which "came back instantly positive for cannabis", the team said.

Officers also found the driver's MOT certificate expired in June 2018.

The driver was arrested for all the above offences and a blood sample was taken at custody.

She was released under investigation until the blood could be analysed. Police also sent a protection notice to agencies regarding the children's welfare.

"We shall be following up this week if she continues to drive," the No Excuse team added.
