THE other afternoon, after shopping in the Southampton Road, I tried to return the short distance home via Milford Mill Road. However, there was a queue from the new traffic lights at the railway bridge right back onto the main road. The lights only turn green for a few seconds, so only about four cars get through at a time, and then there is almost a minute's wait. While I was there not one vehicle came the other way, so we were waiting for nothing and blocking the A36. I eventually turned around and went back along the ring road.
A lot of our money has been spent, a lot of inconvenience caused, more pollution and queues created and the result is a complete failure to solve a problem that didn't exist. If they had spent some money on the road edge and filling in the potholes, the things that the resurfacing work didn't fix, that would have been a real improvement.
