TRAFFIC wardens are now wearing body worn cameras while patrolling car parks in Wiltshire to stamp out aggressive and violent behaviour by angry motorists.
The cameras, which are also used by many police officers, will record any physical or verbal abuse experienced by the wardens on the job.
Cabinet member for highways, Bridget Wayman, said: “The benefits of body-worn video cameras are huge.
“We will do everything we can to prosecute anyone who feels it is acceptable to behave aggressively or abusively towards our officers.
“Our civil enforcement officers play a vital role in keeping traffic flowing, being a visible presence, and encouraging people to park appropriately. They should not have to tolerate such behaviour while carrying out their duties.”
Footage and audio captured by the cameras will then be used to support police investigations.
Each camera will be identified as CCTV devices while being worn out as part of the civil enforcement officer's personal protective equipment.
