A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a woman was found in Amesbury.

The 35-year-old man from Amesbury is currently in custody at Melksham Police Station.

The body of the woman, who has been named locally as Samantha Magee, was found at an address in Bence Court on Friday afternoon.

A 51-year-old man from Salisbury who was arrested over the weekend, was released yesterday with no further action. He is now being treated as a witness.

Police say her death is currently being treated as unexplained and officers are keeping an open mind about whether there were any suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

Detective Inspector Gemma Davies, from the Brunel Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their support and patience while our enquiries are continuing.

“People in the local area are likely to see an increased police presence as the investigation takes place.

“I would urge anyone with information to come forward now – any information, regardless of how insignificant you think it might be, could be crucial to this investigation.”

Anyone with information which could assist the investigation is asked to contact the Brunel MCIT team on 101, quoting Operation Majesty.
