A SECOND man arrested in connection with the death of a woman in Amesbury has been released under investigation by police.

Wiltshire Police announced yesterday that a 35-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of murder, after the body of a woman named locally as Samantha Magee was found in Bence Court on Friday.

It comes after a 51-year-old man was also arrested and released in suspicion with the death, which officers are treating as unexplained.

On Sunday, officers from Amesbury Police apologised to Ms Magee's family, after announcing that an arrest had been made on Facebook before telling her relatives.

A spokesman for the force said: "Officers are keeping an open mind about whether there were any suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

"Formal identification has not yet taken place, but the woman’s family are being supported by specially-trained officers.

"We would ask people to respect their privacy at this difficult time."

Anyone with information which could assist the investigation is asked to contact the Brunel Major Crime Investigation Team on 101, quoting Operation Majesty.
