AN INDIAN restaurant in Salisbury has received an award for its Asian cuisine.

Cafe Diwali was presented with the Best Casual Dining Restaurant award at the 2018 Asian Curry Awards last month.

The business in Crane Street opened in 2016, and wanted to bring “the heart of India to our medieval city”, by introducing a combination of Indian street food with craft beers.

Owner and chef of Cafe Diwali, Muhammed Rasheed, was hunting for the right venue to begin his street food journey in Salisbury for more than a year, before setting his sights on the former craft wine bar and opening its new doors on March 21, 2016.

The award ceremony took place on Sunday, November 18 in London, and Mr Rasheed was “very pleased” to win the award, adding: “We wish to thank our customers for their loyal support, [it] has given the whole team a boost.”

The awards were launched to highlight achievements within the Indian food industry, and to commend the dedication of staff to their eateries across the UK.

After being nominated and selected for the shortlist, the Salisbury restaurant was selected by consultants and industry experts to win the title.

Mr Rasheed said the restaurant’s dinner selection of curries is “authentic and traditional” adding: “We sell traditional Indian street food and have a small menu that changes every four months.”

Meals currently available include vegetable and meat curries, and a range of kebabs, nibbles, rice and naan.
