A WOMAN in her 80s was burgled in Castle Road yesterday in a distraction burglary, when someone claimed to be a milkman to gain access to her house.
At around 5.10pm, the man knocked on the door of the woman and told her he was there to discuss the woman's order over the Christmas period.
He asked her to write down her order and as she went inside to get a pen and paper, he followed her in to the hallway uninvited.
Once inside, he told the woman that he needed to use the toilet.
After he had used her toilet, the woman noticed he was stood in the kitchen.
She challenged the man, who said he was making sure her order was correct and then left the property.
After he had left, the woman noticed £60 was missing from her purse which had been left in the kitchen.
The man is described as white, aged in his 30s, clean shaven and with short dark hair. He was wearing a black leather jacket, dark blue jeans and light coloured trainers.
Police are urging residents to be vigilant following the incident and anyone who saw the man in the area, or anyone who may have had a visit from him, should call 101 and quote crime reference number 54180117708.
