A POP-UP pub is opening its doors this weekend in Woodgreen.

While the village’s pub is closed, St Boniface Church is opening its doors to the community to offer up festive tipples sourced from local suppliers.

It is being supported by the village and local breweries.

Associate Priest in the Avon Valley Partnership Nicky Davies said: “I am delighted that St Boniface Church in Woodgreen, full of our community Christmas trees, is able to host a pop-up pub. We are aware that our community have been lacking a social place to gather during the closure of our village pub The Horse and Groom.

“Some people may think it is unusual for a church to become a pub but just think of the tradition of the monks brewing beer in medieval times. And at the heart of Christianity is the tradition of sharing bread and wine together.”

The pop-up pub, Room at the Inn, opened yesterday and is also open this evening (11.30pm-2.30pm) and again on December 21 (6pm-11pm), 22 (11.30pm-2.30) and 25 (12pm-2pm).

The community of Woodgreen have submitted a bid to buy the Horse and Groom pub, which was designated an asset of community value.
