A SALISBURY bingo club was reopened last week by a 100-year-old bingo superfan.

On Saturday (February 9) Irene Boyce was invited to cut the ribbon to launch rebranded bingo hall, Buzz Bingo, at the official opening party.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was followed by visitors enjoying bingo, bubbly, and a chance to win £500.

Formerly Gala Bingo, Irene has been playing bingo in the Endless Street venue since she moved to the area in 2009, visiting two or three times a week, and she felt "honoured" to launch the club.

She added: “I love the community feel at the bingo club – all the staff and customers are friendly, and the people are my favourite part about coming to the club.

"I popped in for a game after being away on holiday once and I won the big jackpot – it was thousands, so I essentially got all of the money I spent on the holiday back."

Described as the "ultimate VIP" by Claire Ashton, the Buzz Bingo local marketing business partner, Irene was treated to the full VIP experience as a chauffeur-driven Mercedes was sent to pick her up from her home in Durrington before the festivities, and dropped her home after.

Ms Ashton added: “The club could’ve chosen a celebrity or a local dignitary for their opening, but instead they wanted somebody who meant something to the club.

"That person is Irene who represents all of Buzz Bingo’s Salisbury customers past and present. It's a truly fantastic gesture from a club built from its community roots."
