WITH reference to Mark McLelland’s ‘negative message’ (Journal Postbag, February 14), does he not understand the meaning of democracy? It means that people have a right to an opinion and if hundreds of people – myself included – want to object to the closure of the present library then we have every right to do so. He says this does not reflect the ambition of his constituents, he’s asked every single one has he? Personally, I do not welcome millions of pounds being spent on temporarily housing the library in a former shop (and who is going to pay for the new library, if it ever does get moved again?) or lots more shops in yet another arcade which might well end up empty like the ones we’ve already got.
