TWO counterfeit Scottish £50 notes were used in Downton yesterday (February 21).
The notes were used at the White Horse Inn in Downton, and fake notes were also reported to have been used at the Co-Op in Downton, as well as Wilton Garden Centre.
Police are currently investigating an number of incidents involving counterfeit bank notes in the Salisbury area, and they are urging retail and business managers to be vigilant.
A statement from the police added: "Be aware that those trying to use counterfeit notes will usually try to buy low value items using a high value note."
They are looking to speak to two men in connection with the incident at the Co-Op.
If anyone should try and use a fake note, dial 999 immediately to give officers the opportunity to apprehend the offenders at the scene.
If the offenders are no longer at the scene, then call Wiltshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.
Make a note of the offender's physical description and also details of any vehicles that they are seen to be using.
Police would also urge retail and business managers to visit https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/retailers-and-businesses which gives advice and details on how to check if your banknotes are genuine or counterfeit.
