SOUTH Wiltshire's finest sports men and women gathered at the Stones Hotel on Friday night (February 22) for the return of the Salisbury Journal's Sports Awards, with guest speaker, Premier League referee and local boy, Roger East.

Roger, from West Tytherley, is also a previous winner at the Sports Awards, and pleased the guests with stories about Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez and Wayne Rooney, among others, as well as clips of some of the unpopular decisions he's had to make over the 18 years he has been a Premier League referee or assistant referee.

Journal publisher Bill Browne said last night:"It’s great to be back here for an event we consider to be the highlight of the sporting year."

It was a great night at the Stones Hotel, and congratulations to all the winners last night.
