BOSSES of a former Thai restaurant in Salisbury admitted selling noodles containing peanuts to a customer with a dangerous nut allergy.

Salisbury magistrates heard yesterday that Koh Thai, previously on Endless Street, had delivered chicken soya noodles to a woman who had a dangerous nut allergy.

Speaking on behalf of Wiltshire Council, who brought the case to court, Syan Venton said the customer in question had placed an order with Koh Thai for delivery, through the Just Eat takeaway app in December 2017.

“The Just Eat receipt included information on it that the meal that she ordered was for someone with a peanut allergy,” Mr Venton said.

“The restaurant received that, but the information was not conveyed to the kitchen.”

He said the customer began to suffer an allergic reaction after just one mouthful of the dish, adding: “Thankfully it was a mild reaction”.

Mr Venton said the woman suffered stomach pains, swollen lips and a swollen tongue.

A subsequent investigation by Wiltshire Council’s food hygiene team “revealed several deficiencies within the kitchen that could have led to her receiving peanuts in her meal, or cross contamination,” Mr Venton said, concluding: “That’s the case in a nutshell - no pun intended.”

Similar allegations against two of Koh’s directors - Andrew Lennox and Paul Lilley - were dropped after there was a lack of evidence to show they were responsible and a guilty plea was entered on behalf of the company during the hearing on Monday.

The company, whose business address is in Poole Road, Bournemouth, will present its mitigation ahead of sentencing on April 23 at Swindon magistrates’ court. The court heard the outcome is likely to be a fine ranging between £8,000 and about £35,000.
