SALISBURY businesses and residents put their pancake flipping skills to the test today in the seventh international pancake day race.

Organised by St Thomas’s Church and in support of The Trussell Trust, the race took place in the high street this morning, with 15 teams taking part in a bid to win the golden frying pan.

Competitors included representatives from Wiltshire Police, Barclays, Middleton and Major, Friends of Salisbury Cathedral, Salisbury Food Bank, St Thomas’s Church, TSB Bank, the Bridge Project and The Old Ale and Coffee House.

And from suits to superheroes, everyone came dressed to impress.

Before the races began Amy Anderson from The Trussell Trust team said: "Next year we're going to do it three-legged. Happy pancake day from The Trussell Trust."

After around half an hour of flipping heats the final sprint was between Adam from rowing team Holy Crepe, and Ricardo Freire from JoJo Maman Bebe, but Adam was first to cross the finish line and flip his way to victory.

Adam, who wanted to be identified as Captain America, said: “I’m very proud, it was tough competition and my flipping ability definitely needs some work.”

Team mate Jo ‘Deadpool’ added: “[There was] no better way to spend a day off.

“We are very proud to become the international flippers, and we cannot wait to defend our title next year.”

Reverend Jonathon Plows of St Thomas’s Church, who hosted the event, said: “This is a wonderful community event, so many people have turned up to show their support.

“Events like this really bring the city together.”
