A CONCERT is being held by Salisbury Community Choir (SCC) in memory of accompanist David Coram who died in January.

It takes place on Saturday at St Mark’s Church in Salisbury at 7.30pm.

The choir said: “The programme is varied and includes a selection of just a few of the musical memories from the last 10 years; time that they shared with David - a very brilliant accompanist and organist.”

There are extracts from the choir’s commissions by Bob Chilcott, Will Todd and Alexander L’Estrange and Joanna Forbes L’Estrange. The Kyrie from the Tango inspired Palmeri Mass, choir favourites and a “sprinkling” of Mr Lear feature in the programme, which SCC say “reflects David with it’s musical storytelling and witty lyrics”.

The choir said: “As you can see there is a wide selection of musical styles, reflecting the variety of music that this large non-auditioned choir sings. Each piece has formed part of its rich and exciting history from the past decade, from large scale concerts in cathedrals around the UK, The Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford and from tours around Europe as well as their regular concerts and performances in and around Salisbury, all of which were performed with David.

“The SCC knows that each piece will be special, a reminder of happy times and special occasions, times that they were lucky to have shared with David, with his exceptional talents helping them in many ways.”

The concert is conducted by Jeremy Backhouse and David’s friend, Brian Moles is the accompanist.

Ticket revenue from the concert will be donated to a fund that has been set up to provide support for David’s two children. There will also be a retiring collection.
