A CHARITY box was stolen and taps were left on as a recreation hall was broken into late last night.

A large window and doors within Shrewton Recreation Hall, on Mill Lane, were also damaged.

Police have said the incident took place between 11pm and midnight, and that it was a "completely mindless act."

PC Richard Boston added: “We have been carrying out enquiries in the area and we have established that a disturbance was heard at the scene between 11pm and midnight last night – people were heard running from the scene in the direction of Tanners Lane.

“This was a completely mindless act – damage has been caused to a facility which is at the centre of the local community.

"This type of behaviour is completely unacceptable and I am keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anybody, or any vehicles, in the area between 11pm and midnight which appeared suspicious or out of place.

“Our enquiries are ongoing at this stage and any help from the public to find those responsible would be much appreciated.”
