A PUB quiz that turned into a “major event” has raised more than £2,000 for charity.

The Crown Inn in Fordingbridge held a pub quiz, auction and raffle to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK, and with donations still coming in, the total raised is currently around £2,500.

Residents from across the town took part in the event which was held on Sunday, March 3, either by donating prizes or coming along for the quiz, described as a “community effort” by pub owner, Joanna Digweed.

“What was meant to be a small pub quiz turned into a major event,” she said.

“Most of the town donated and around 50 people turned up. The town hasn’t got great wealth but we managed to do this and it was definitely worth doing for such a little town.

“It was a community effort and the auction was brilliant fun.”

As part of the fundraiser Andy Baird braved a back and bum wax for the cause, as Jamie Pain had a bald patch shaved on top of his head, the pair raising £700 between them.

“They’re heroes in my eyes,” Joanna added.
