A MAN was "violently" attacked twice in Salisbury city centre on Saturday.

Police say the man was assaulted outside of Debenhams on Blue Boar Row at about 10.30pm by two men.

He was able to run towards the entrance of Tesco on Castle Street but the men caught up with him and assaulted him again before walking off.

The victim, a 33-year-old local man, did not sustain serious injuries.

Officers located two suspects in Belle Vue Road. Two local men, aged 19 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of assault.

The 20-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs (Cocaine).

Both were taken into custody and later released under investigation.

DC Dawn Rowan from Salisbury CID said: "This was a violent attack and the victim was fortunate not to have sustained serious injury. Our investigation is progressing and as part of our investigation we have been analysing CCTV from the area and carrying out enquiries with local businesses and residents.

“ As this occurred on a Saturday evening it is likely that there will have been a number of people out and about who may have important information which could assist us.

"We are asking for the public's help and encourage anyone who witnessed these assaults to make contact with us."
