A DRIVER has crashed into a lamp post causing traffic to build in Salisbury.

At around 2.40pm today (March 21), police were called to the scene of the incident, Churchill Way North between Castle Street roundabout and St Marks Roundabout, A36.

Emergency services are at the scene, and a man has been taken to hospital for further checks.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: "We were called at 2.40pm to Churchill Way North going towards St Marks Roundabout, as one vehicle had collided with a lamp post."

A spokeperson for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust said: "SWASFT received a call at just after 2.30pm to Campbell Road after a road traffic collision.

"Paramedics treated a male patient at the scene and took him onto hospital for further checks."

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is at the scene making sure the car and surroundings are safe.

Police have advised drivers seek an alternative route as the road is partially blocked and traffic is on the rise.
