Henderson’s Bakery makes special shortbread in aid of Stars Appeal

Lynne Rose, the managing director of Personnel Placements, is trekking the Great Wall of China for the charity later this month and to support her fundraising efforts Paul Henderson, of Henderson’s Artisan Bakery and Cafe, has created a limited edition wild garlic and cheddar shortbread.

The special shortbread has gone on sale this week with funds going to support the Stars Appeal.

Lynne said the support from Paul was “wonderful” and she was “really delighted”.

Lynne has previously climbed the Three Peaks but says she has never done a trekking challenge like this before.

“It is exciting. It is going to be a challenging walk,” she added. “Having the support of everyone behind me who have helped me fundraise has spurred me on.”

Lynne says she was inspired to take on the fundraising challenge as a way of giving back to Salisbury District Hospital for the support it has provided to her family in the past. She was also given an extra push to do something to mark her 50th birthday last year.

Lynne said: “We all know someone who has been cared for by the hospital. It was important to give something back.”

Lynne has been busy preparing for the trek, going on plenty of walks, and has her own giant panda mascot, Zouzou for moral support. She has a smaller version of the special bear that travels in her rucksack.

This is her final fundraising initiative before she heads off to China to do her trek from April 27 to May 6.

Paul Henderson, who runs the bakery, said: “I have known Lynne for a long time and she is a friend of the shop. This is to support what Lynne is doing. It is a great charity to support.”

He says he wanted to create something “unique and special”.

The wild garlic and cheddar shortbread biscuits, which have been shaped into stars, are also something new for the bakery as Paul says he has not made them before. 

The shortbread will be available to buy at Henderson’s Artisan Bakery and Cafe for the next two weeks.
