A KNUCKLE duster-wearing man attacked two police officers who were trying to arrest him near a Salisbury supermarket - despite having already been tasered.

Police were called to the area outside Aldi in London Road after reports the man had punched a passing van with the weapon at just before 8am this morning.

But while trying to subdue the 32-year-old, which saw the Wiltshire Police officers use a Taser and Pava spray (similar to pepper spray), they were attacked and spat at.

Despite being assaulted, the pair were able to arrest their attacker and place a spit guard on his face.

The man was then also found to be carrying a catapult and a quantity of wraps of what the police believe to be Class A drugs.

All the items, including the knuckle duster, were then seized and the man was taken to Melksham Police Station.

He is currently still in custody having been arrested on suspicion of two counts of assaulting an emergency worker, two counts of possession of an offensive weapon, criminal damage, and being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.

Sergeant Keith Jackson, from Wiltshire South CPT, said: “The officers who attended this incident were faced with a very volatile man, who was spitting and hitting out.

“Due to this, they successfully used a spit guard to protect themselves from any further injury or harm.

“Luckily neither of the officers who were punched sustained serious injuries.

“We would also like to appeal for any other victims to come forward. We believe other vehicles were punched or damaged this morning, so if you have any information about this then please call us.”

Anyone with information should call 101 and quote log 35.
