THE comments of Richard Walters, Wiltshire Council's project manager for the Maltings development, are illuminating (Salisbury Journal, April 4). I especially like the reference to Chester library as a possible model for the future and hope that the development has deep pockets since the library building in Hunter Street, Chester, is part of a multicultural development (theatre, boutique cinema, restaurant, exhibition spaces, etc) that cost over £37 million.
Perhaps – more importantly in the immediate future – the old library in Chester closed at the end of March 2017 and the new library opened in early May the same year. There was none of this interim accommodation for a long and unknown period in a small space whilst the new one was constructed!
