SKATEBOARDING, BMX-ing, music and prizes were all part of an action-packed day in Whiteparish last weekend.

On Saturday, April 6, Skatejam challenged both novice and professional skaters to come to the village skatepark and join in with competitions, games and more.

In collaboration with the team from Swindon's ATBShop, Skatejam was the first event to take place in the grounds, after the £100,000 facility was formally opened in December last year.

Leon Coster, who works for ATBShop, said everyone had an "epic day", adding: "Teaching young people to ride is easy when you've got such a good park.

"All the riders seemed well up for learning and with that came the prizes. We gave away a scooter on the day and a skateboard along with lots of other smaller prizes totalling over £250."

DJ Dom Etchells also from ATBShop added: "The skate park is an amazing new addition to their village and really set the standard and quality of build that other parishes should be following."

The skatepark was a community project initiated by resident Sarah Skeates, with help from parish clerk Maria Pennington, and funding from Sport England, The Cleansing Service Group, The Hills Group Limited and Wiltshire Council Southern Area Board.
